McDonald’s is America’s favorite fast-food chain for 2026, according to a new YouGov consumer survey. The result puts the Golden Arches ahead of major rivals including Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell.

The ranking is based on responses from 48,400 U.S. consumers surveyed over a 12-month period. For a category where price, speed, and habit all matter, the findings offer a snapshot of where Americans say they are most likely to eat next.

YouGov’s annual “best bites” report for 2026 asked consumers a simple question: when they are next in the market to buy food or drink, which brands would they consider purchasing from. The survey was conducted from March 1, 2025, through February 28, 2026.

McDonald’s took first place with 39.6% of respondents saying they would choose it for their next fast-food meal. Chick-fil-A followed at 35.5%, with Wendy’s at 33.2%, Burger King at 31.6%, and Taco Bell at 31.2%.

The report said the final rankings had held steady for at least the previous six months. McDonald’s also led across most of the demographic groups analyzed, including three of the four age groups included in the study.

Ashley Brown, senior director of YouGov America and a lead researcher on the report, said the results point to more than just cheap food. In comments reported by Food & Wine, Brown said the “winning formula is not just low prices. It is clear value, reliable quality, and the right kind of convenience for each audience.”

Brown said McDonald’s does not need to lead every brand perception category to win overall traffic. She noted that other chains perform strongly on measures like customer satisfaction, quality, and positive impression.

Instead, she said McDonald’s wins where it counts most in day-to-day decision-making: it is “easy to find, fast, familiar, and often seen as good value.” That combination helps explain why the brand continues to perform well with such a broad slice of the U.S. public.

A separate YouGov survey of 11,600 consumers looked more closely at quality and value. In that part of the research, McDonald’s did not finish first in either category, showing that overall popularity does not always match top ratings for food quality.

Consumers named Chick-fil-A the best fast-food chain for quality, while Wendy’s ranked highest for value. Those results suggest diners are making finer distinctions between where they go for taste, where they go for deals, and where they go out of convenience.

McDonald’s still posted a strong showing in menu-specific rankings. According to the YouGov data, 39.2% of respondents named McDonald’s as their favorite fast-food fries, far ahead of runner-up Five Guys at 9%, reinforcing the chain’s staying power even as rivals score points in other areas.
