Fast-food chains have spent much of 2024 pushing limited-time menu drops and oversized snacks to stand out in a crowded market. Subway joined that trend on April 10 with a new national item, Footlong Doritos Nachos, adding another product to its growing footlong lineup.

Subway announced on April 10 that it had launched Footlong Doritos Nachos at restaurants across the United States. The company said the item starts with Doritos Nacho Cheese chips and includes Cheddar cheese sauce, shredded Monterey cheddar, jalapeños, diced tomatoes, red onions, and Baja Chipotle sauce.

The launch expanded Subway’s footlong snack strategy, which already included products such as the Footlong Cookie and Footlong Pretzel. Subway confirmed the new nachos can also be customized with steak or rotisserie-style chicken, giving customers at least 2 protein add-on options beyond the standard build.

Early social media videos posted in April showed customers sharing the item on TikTok, Instagram, and X, helping the launch spread quickly online. Subway did not release a company figure for views or sales tied to those posts, but the brand confirmed the product was part of its spring 2024 menu push.

Because Subway operates through thousands of franchised locations in all 50 states, availability can vary by store even during a national launch. Subway announced the item as a nationwide menu addition, but the company has not released a store-by-store list showing which local restaurants had it ready on April 10.

That matters for customers in places like California, Texas, Florida, and New York, where Subway has large franchise footprints and menu timing can differ by operator. Subway has not publicly identified any states that were excluded from the rollout, and it has not announced a separate regional test tied to the product.

Pricing also may differ by market, which is standard across franchised fast-food systems. Subway’s April announcement described the item and its ingredients, but the company did not publish one national price covering every U.S. location.

Why Subway is leaning harder into footlong snacks

The new nachos fit a broader strategy Subway has used since 2023 to extend its brand beyond traditional subs. Subway has increasingly marketed portable, shareable, and novelty-focused footlong items, a move that lines up with industry efforts to drive add-on purchases and social media attention.

Restaurant chains across the U.S. have leaned on limited-time products and snackable menu items as inflation has kept pressure on traffic and value perception in 2024. Industry analysts and company executives across fast food have repeatedly pointed to menu innovation as a way to bring in younger customers and encourage repeat visits.

For Subway customers, the practical takeaway is straightforward: many U.S. stores are now offering another non-sandwich footlong item alongside the chain’s core sub menu. Subway said the nachos are available for a limited time, which means local selection, pricing, and customization will depend on individual restaurants while the promotion remains active.
