Pizza remains one of the most competitive parts of the restaurant business, with major chains reporting mixed results in 2026. Domino’s is now the clear global sales leader, with the company confirming in its July 2026 earnings report that it brought in $20.6 billion in worldwide retail sales over the past year. That result puts it ahead of rivals including Pizza Hut and Papa Johns based on the latest figures publicly discussed by the companies.
Domino’s posts the biggest global sales number

Domino’s said in its July 2026 earnings report that global retail sales reached $20.6 billion over the prior year. The company also reported a 1.9% increase in U.S. sales and a 4.1% increase in international sales. Total revenue rose 4.3%, while quarterly net income increased 3.6% to $135.8 million, according to the company.
The scale of that lead stands out against the latest available results from competing pizza chains. Pizza Hut posted a 16% drop in operating profit in early 2026, even as sales edged up, based on its first-quarter figures. Papa Johns also reported a weaker first quarter, with revenue down $39.7 million from a year earlier and net income down $2.4 million, according to company results.
What the numbers show in the U.S. and abroad

For U.S. customers, Domino’s said its domestic store base still grew, though most of the expansion came overseas. The company reported net growth of 26 stores in the United States and 209 net new locations internationally. That means the chain’s 2026 sales lead was supported by both its home market and a broader global footprint.
What is not yet clear is how those new stores break down by individual state or metro area. Domino’s did not release a full location-by-location list in the figures cited from its July 2026 report. Pizza Hut, by comparison, added 346 net new stores globally, while Papa Johns posted a net decline of 63 stores worldwide, including 36 closures in North America.
Why Domino’s is ahead right now

Domino’s chief executive Russell Weiner said order growth was a main driver of the company’s performance in the second quarter of 2026. The company said both carryout and delivery order counts increased, helped in part by new customers. Domino’s also said its rewards program continued bringing people back for future purchases.
For customers, the practical takeaway is straightforward: the chain’s scale is growing, and the company is still adding stores while reporting higher sales. Domino’s has not announced any broad rollback in expansion plans in the results cited here. Based on its latest earnings report, the company entered the second half of 2026 with rising sales, more locations, and stronger quarterly profit than a year earlier.
