Buc-ee’s opened its first Missouri location on December 11, 2023, at 3284 N. The store is 53,000 square feet and includes 120 fuel pumps, putting it in line with the large-format travel centers the chain has used in newer states.
Springfield leaders had been working toward the project since at least August 2022, when Buc-ee’s founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin attended the groundbreaking. Before the opening, the Springfield City Council renamed Mulroy Road to Beaver Road, giving the Missouri site a direct tie to the company’s mascot and branding.
City projections reported by The Coconut Mama said the site could draw about 6 million customers per year. The same report said 88% of those expected visitors would come from more than 20 miles away, underscoring Buc-ee’s focus on regional highway traffic rather than just neighborhood business.

What is confirmed is simple: Missouri has one operating Buc-ee’s, and it is in Springfield on Interstate 44. Buc-ee’s current public location information does not list another Missouri store, and the company has not released a second in-state opening date, city, or construction timeline.
That leaves a gap between speculation and official plans. The Coconut Mama noted that corridors such as I-70 between Kansas City, Columbia, and St. Louis, or I-55 south of St. Louis, could fit Buc-ee’s highway model, but those areas are only possibilities and not announced projects.
That distinction matters because Buc-ee’s rumors often grow around zoning talk, land discussions, or social media posts. For now, there is no publicly confirmed second Missouri Buc-ee’s on the company’s opening list, even as other states such as Kansas are tied to future locations.
Why Springfield made sense, and what Missouri drivers should expect now
Springfield fit Buc-ee’s expansion strategy because it sits on I-44 and historic Route 66, two routes with steady road-trip and regional travel traffic. The Coconut Mama reported that the location can pull drivers traveling between St. Louis, Tulsa, Branson, northwest Arkansas, and the Ozarks, giving the company a broad customer base from a single site.
The scale also reflects Buc-ee’s standard playbook in new markets. The Springfield store opened with more than 200 jobs and starting wages of $18 to $23 per hour, according to the same report, along with the chain’s usual mix of fuel, snacks, brisket sandwiches, jerky, fudge, and merchandise.
For Missouri drivers, the practical takeaway is unchanged as of now: Springfield remains the only official Buc-ee’s stop in the state. Unless Buc-ee’s adds a Missouri project to its public opening list, travelers looking for Beaver Nuggets, fuel, or the company’s travel center format will still need to head to 3284 N. Beaver Road.
