A timing test found clear gaps by seat type

Across 9 visits in June 2025, wait times were tracked from seating to first greet, drink arrival, food arrival, and check drop. The results showed the bar seat was fastest most often, while patio tables were slowest most often, based on the recorded times from the same set of visits.
In the test, bar seats averaged about 2 minutes to a first greet, indoor dining room tables averaged about 5 minutes, and patio tables averaged about 8 minutes. On 6 of the 9 visits, the bar delivered the quickest first contact, while the patio was last in 5 of the 9 visits.
The pattern held beyond the first hello. Check drop times were also slower on patios in the recorded visits, sometimes by more than 10 minutes compared with indoor seats at the same restaurant on the same day.
The impact depends on the restaurant setup

The timing differences were observed at casual restaurants in one local market, but the pattern lines up with how many US restaurants divide service areas. The National Restaurant Association has said labor remains a top operating issue in 2025, and many full-service locations still run separate sections for bar, dining room, and outdoor seating.
