Soft, thick, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, these Homemade Valentine’s Lofthouse
Sugar Cookies are a bakery-style treat perfect for celebrating love! Topped with a dreamy,
fluffy frosting and festive sprinkles, these cookies have the signature pillowy texture of
classic Lofthouse cookies. Perfect for Valentine’s Day parties, gift boxes, or simply
indulging with loved ones!

Instructions:

Prepare the Cookie Dough

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set
    aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3
    minutes).
  3. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Mix in sour cream until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (this helps keep the
    cookies soft and thick).

Bake the Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the chilled dough into 1 ½-inch balls, then gently flatten each ball slightly with
your hands or the bottom of a glass.
  3. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  4. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack
    to cool completely.

Make the Frosting

  1. Beat butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until combined.
  3. Add vanilla extract and heavy cream/milk, beating for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Mix in pink or red food coloring until you reach the desired color.

Frost & Decorate

  1. Spread or pipe the frosting onto the cooled cookies.
  2. Top with Valentine’s-themed sprinkles for a festive touch.
  3. Let the frosting set for about 30 minutes before serving.

FAQs:

Do I have to chill the dough?
Yes! Chilling helps the cookies hold their shape and develop that classic soft texture.

Can I make these ahead of time?
Absolutely! The cookies stay soft for 3-4 days in an airtight container, or you can freeze
them for up to 3 months.

What if I don’t have sour cream?
You can substitute it with Greek yogurt or buttermilk for a similar soft texture.
