This Italian-style grilled chicken is simple, juicy, and packed with flavor. With just two main ingredients—chicken and Italian dressing—you’ll have perfectly charred, tender grilled chicken that’s ready in no time. It’s the ultimate summer go-to, whether you’re firing up the outdoor grill or using a stovetop grill pan. It screams summertime on a plate with its fresh, herby, and zesty flavors. Perfect for making my favorite chicken bacon ranch chopped salad and more.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Breast: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are the star. Pound them to even thickness for quicker, more even cooking. Prefer dark meat? Chicken thighs work great too
  • Italian Dressing: A zesty blend of oil, vinegar, and herbs that tenderizes and flavors the chicken. Store-bought or homemade both work!

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
  • Add the chicken to a container or zip-top bag, pour in the Italian dressing, and seal
  • Let it marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or up to 6 hours for maximum flavor
Step 2: Preheat Your Grill
  • Heat an outdoor grill or grill pan over medium-high heat (375–450°F). Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking
Step 3: Grill the Chicken
  • Place the marinated chicken on the grill. Cook for 4–6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). The chicken should have nice grill marks and be slightly charred on the edges
Step 4: Rest and Slice
  • Transfer the grilled chicken to a plate and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This helps retain all those flavorful juices

FAQs

  1. Can I bake this instead of grilling?
Yes! Bake at 425°F (220°C) for about 20–25 minutes, or until the internal temp hits 160°F.
  2. How long can I marinate the chicken?
Anywhere between 30 minutes and 6 hours. Longer than that, and the vinegar in the dressing can start to break down the meat too much.
