Fast-food chains have leaned hard on limited-time menu returns in 2024 as brands try to drive traffic with familiar items. KFC is the latest to do it, bringing back Chicken & Waffles nationwide for the first time in 3 years.

KFC announced on Oct. 28 that Chicken & Waffles is back at participating restaurants across the U.S. for a limited time. The company said the returning item is its first national Chicken & Waffles release since 2021, giving the brand a specific 3-year gap between nationwide runs.

The menu includes several options, according to KFC. Customers can order a $7 Tenders and Waffle Box, a $7 Two-Piece Fried Chicken and Waffle Box, or a $25 Chicken & Waffles Fan Favorites Box that is designed for groups and includes four pieces of fried chicken, 12 nuggets, waffles and sauces, the company said.

KFC also said the meal comes with its original syrup and can be ordered for lunch, dinner or sharing, depending on the bundle. The company confirmed the offer is available only for a limited time while supplies last at participating locations.

Because KFC described the launch as a nationwide return, the item is not tied to one state or one regional test market. That means customers in states including California, Texas, Florida and New York may see the item on menus, but KFC has not released a full list of participating restaurants.

Availability can vary by franchise location, which is common in the fast-food business. KFC said the item is offered at participating restaurants, and that means some stores may not carry every box or combo listed in the announcement.

The company has also not published an end date for the promotion. For customers, the practical takeaway is simple: the item is back now, but the exact menu lineup and timing may depend on the restaurant that is filling the order.

KFC’s return fits a wider restaurant strategy that has shown up repeatedly in 2024, with chains reviving past favorites to encourage repeat visits. Limited-time offers can create urgency without requiring a permanent menu overhaul, and restaurant companies have pointed to traffic pressure and value-focused spending in recent earnings reports across the industry.

KFC has framed the comeback around demand for a familiar product rather than a permanent menu change. In its announcement, the chain positioned Chicken & Waffles as a fan-favorite item and tied the launch to convenience and shareable bundles at $7 and $25 price points.

For customers, that means the return is structured as a short-run promotion, not a full menu reset. KFC has confirmed only that Chicken & Waffles is back now at participating U.S. restaurants, with no nationwide end date announced as of Oct. 28.
